Construction is under way on an inclusive play expansion at Central Park at the east side of Bennett Lake in Roseville. This upgrade will create a one of a kind play experience for children of all ability levels.
The City of Roseville is committed to ensuring that parks are available for all. Thanks to a generous donation facilitated by the Friends of Roseville Parks Foundation (FOR Parks), this project will add inclusive play elements to the playground and rework some of the existing elements to create a fun and challenging play experience for children of all abilities.
Playground amenities include wheelchair-friendly rubber and turf surfaces that will be installed throughout the play area. These amenities have been designed to ensure that the playground offers elements for people of all abilities and acknowledges the fact that while no two children are alike, they all should have a place to play.
FOR Parks volunteers and city staff began exploring the idea of enhancing the playground area in 2019. Since then, FOR Parks representatives and city staff toured other inclusive play sites, reached out to the community (hearing from more than 130 residents), and consulted with disability advocates and playground design experts about building a more inclusive playground. The playground upgrade is expected to be completed by mid-summer.
