The Roseville City Council approved a visioning plan to revitalize Rice St and Larpenteur at its July 23 meeting. The plan identified short-term (2-4 years) and long-term goals (4-15 years) to revitalize the area.
In 2016, the City of Roseville identified revitalizing southeast Roseville as one of its top priorities. In 2017, Roseville joined with the cities of Maplewood and St. Paul and Ramsey County to develop a shared community vision for improvements to the area that borders the three cities.
The cities hired a consulting group to help develop a plan. Elected officials and staff from each of the cities worked together to develop a vision. They created a Community Advisory Group of local businesses and residents to help gather community input. They held community meetings and listening sessions and met with local businesses and residents to identify needs in the area.
The group developed a plan to meet the needs of the businesses and residents of the three cities. The recommendations included creating open space opportunities for community gatherings, creating pedestrian connections for better safety and movement, and more.
A key component of the plan is an “Alliance” of area stakeholders tasked with moving the plan into action. The Alliance will continue the conversations with the community about needed improvements and guide decision-making related to redevelopment and public improvements.
