Congratulations to Joe Adams, Roseville’s new Deputy Chief of Police. Adams replaces Erika Scheider, who was promoted to Police Chief in September. Adams will begin his new role as Deputy Chief on October 1.
In addition to Adams’ promotion, Sergeant Jenn Engh has been promoted to Lieutenant of Investigations and Sergeant Travis Steinberg has been promoted to Lieutenant of Patrol.
A 13-year RPD veteran who has served as a Lieutenant since 2018, Adams (36) will oversee community services officers and public information officer responsibilities. He will also oversee police administrative services and the community relations coordinator.
“I am extremely honored to be given this opportunity. Having worked in Roseville my entire career, I have seen this department and its staff continually evolve to address the community’s needs,” said Adams. "Now more than ever, residents and businesses are sharing their ideas as to how we can best serve public safety. I am prepared and eager to lead our talented officers to effectively and respectfully respond to these needs."
Adams has a Bachelor of Arts from St. Cloud State University and a Master of Police Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association.
Adams began working as a Roseville police officer in March 2007. He worked as a patrol officer from 2007 to 2013, and from 2013 to 2015 he served as the Street Crimes Impact Officer. In 2015, Adams became Patrol Sergeant and was promoted to Lieutenant of Patrol in 2018.
Adams has been a member of the East Metro SWAT and the Ramsey County SWAT. He served as the commander for both units, and he has also been a firearms instructor and served as the city liaison for several human trafficking task forces.
As a teenager, Adams met a police officer at a high school job fair. He went on one ride-along and realized a career in law enforcement was right for him. While in college, Adams explored different law enforcement career options and was selected for a federal law enforcement internship. He realized his desire to connect with the community and knew becoming a police officer would be the best fit.
“Joe brings a wealth of experience to the role of deputy chief. He is an exemplary leader who is committed to the department’s core values of service, integrity, respect and innovation,” said Police Chief Erika Scheider. "In his previous leadership roles, he has built a strong reputation for responsiveness, accountability and collaboration. His strong work ethic, high professional standards, and commitment to community-orientated policing will help build our legacy of excellence in policing."
