Reservoir Woods is a special place in the community. It’s an ideal place to watch birds and other wildlife and is home to a diverse array of native plants. Unfortunately garlic mustard is threatening the plant diversity.
Garlic Mustard is an invasive species that crowds out native plants, tree seedlings and woodland plants. It is an aggressive plant that can quickly take over an area. Fortunately garlic mustard can be managed by pulling plants and preventing it from producing seeds.
We’re looking for volunteers to help pull garlic mustard on the following Tuesdays or Saturdays - May 4, 8, 11, 15, and 18 at 2:00 p.m. No experience needed. A trained volunteer will teach participants how to recognize the plant and how to remove it. This volunteer task is suitable for families with children ages 8 years of age and older.
Participants are encouraged to bring garden gloves, a water bottle, hand weeders like a 3-prong cultivator or trowel, and a bucket to collect the plants. Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants and long sleeves
Parking is available at Victoria St., north of Roselawn Cemetery and south of Parker Ave. Plan to meet on the sidewalk near the pond or at the off-street parking lot. Participants must wear masks when with the group and practice safe social distancing.
Volunteers will also be pulling garlic mustard at Villa Park on Saturday, May 1 at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m. Meet at the Villa Park building located at 2055 Cohansey Blvd.
